Exam Pattern for Computer-Based Test (CBT)
CBT 1 is a test that CBT 1 is designed to test the candidates’ understanding and ability with a computer-based exam. Here’s a quick outline of CBT 1 exam pattern:
Time: Test will take 90 minutes. Candidates who have handicaps that are benchmark (PwBD) and scribes will be allowed 120 minutes.
Total Questions: 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions.
Negative Marking It will result in an additional mark of 1/3 for each wrong answer.

- General Science It tests your understanding of physics, biology, chemistry and environmental science.

RRB Group D Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates who pass those who pass the CBT 1 will be eligible to take the PET. The test tests the endurance of the candidates and is separate for female and male candidates.
PET Criteria:
Male Candidates:
- Carry and lift a weight of 35 kilograms over a distance of 100 meters in just two minutes without lowering the weight.
- Do 1000 meters in 4 mins and fifteen seconds.
Female Candidates:
- Carry and lift a weight of 20 kilograms for 100 meters in less than 2 minutes, with no stopping the weight.
- Do 1000 meters in just 5 minutes 40 seconds.
Candidates are shortlisted for PET according to their performance in CBT 1. Typically three times the number of vacancies will be screened at this point.
RRB Group D Document Verification (DV)
After passing successfully the CBT 1 and PET, candidates will be invited to undergo Document Verification. This process confirms the authenticity of documents of the candidates and also their eligibility for the post.
Document Verification Process:
Selection: The candidates will be selected for DV stage according to the CBT 1 score. In general, candidates with twice the number of vacant positions will be considered for DV.
Tie-breaking Criteria If candidates are able to achieve the same scores the merit of each candidate will be determined using:
- Age The candidates who have a higher age will rank higher on the merit list.
- Alphabetical Order If the ages are identical, the names will be ordered alphabetically, starting from A to Z in order to end the tie.
Last Appointment Candidates’ appointment is dependent on:
- Medical Fitness Test The candidates must clear the test for medical fitness administered by the Railway Administration.
- Verification of Community and Educational Certificates Each certificate must be authenticated in accordance with the guidelines.
- character verification: The antecedents and the character of the candidates will be confirmed.
Candidates who pass the document Verification stage are then subject to Medical Exam.
